Canadian singer-songwriter Deanna Petcoff is an artist we have shared a few songs from in the past couple of years. has recently released her single “Failing Upwards” which is her first release since her signing to Royal Mountain Records.

“Failing Upwards” is a step forward for the rising songwriter who deftly captures an enthusiastic spark that has an uplifting indie rock sound with a passionate and rising anthemic chorus that delivers a significant emotional punch. Fans of other contemporary artists such as Lucy Dacus and Soccer Mommy will find plenty to like in this charming effort.

About the song Petcoff describes the emotion and changes that led to its formation:

”Failing Upwards” wasn’t supposed to be a happy song. At the time I was trying to make a relationship work that clearly wasn’t working with someone I was really in love with. I felt like every choice I had made and continued to make was the wrong one and that everything I did just added more fuel to a growing fire. When I was writing “Failing Upwards” I was thinking about my journey as a woman falling in and out of love. This is a song about not being at your best, but doing better than before.
