Last month the ever-consistent indie-folk duo Vern Matz returned with their new album Perennial via Nice Guys Records.
“Smoking Sun” is the triumphant album opening that showcases a bit more of an electric sound for the duo. The wit-smart folk songwriting craft is still very much at the forefront but there’s a crisp punchiness to the production and guitars that compliment the vocals in a bold and winning manner.
You can stream and purchase the album at Bandcamp and find “Smoking Sun” streaming directly below, where we have also included a quote from the band about the track.
a folk tune on a razor’s edge
a jaunty trip to the sun
a doomed narrative ripe with plane crashes and toxic affections
