Castle Theater is the moniker of Minnesotan songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Tholl. He’s preparing the release of his full-length debut album, Characters, a nine-song collection of warm, lo-fi pop and folk due out on August 13th. It was written, recorded, and mixed entirely by Tholl in his basement and loosely inspired by the film, Magnolia.

Take the smooth as hell lead single “Make Sense” a song that feels like it is straight out of the 70s, the sort of song you could hear soundtracking a classic TV show. It has a classic songwriting approach that doesn’t throw many new tricks at you but instead charms you with a classic sound and songwriting ability that feels comforting and familiar yet full of its own unique energy at the same time.
