Breakup Films are an Israel-based rock band that is preparing the release of their new EP and have shared their new single “Just Whenever,” described as “an anti-party anthem reflecting a gradual wear-out of a romantic relationship.”

“Just Whenever” feels like it’s pulled out of the 80s with a mix of the emotional nostalgia of The Cure, with some of the new wave synth work and angular jangly guitar riffs of bands like New Order, while capturing some of the modern sounds of bands like Craft Spells and The Drums. You wouldn’t be faulted for mistaking this as being from a Brooklyn band in the early 2010s.

You can stream “Just Whenever” along with a bit more about the track, both of which we have posted below.

“Just Whenever” tells the story of rose-colored glasses turning gray. The narrator is watching different components of their once emotionally-containing relationship fading out into apathy, making room for someone until they can no longer find their place in it.
