Sarah Johnsone makes a striking first impression on “Tonight,” her debut single that she wrote during the first lockdown.

She wrote the song on her kitchen floor at 4am, and it’s the raw intimate nature that makes the song in a way. It’s only the third song that she even written, but it still feels fully realized and most importantly, sincere.

It’s described as a track that “speaks of yearning, being apart from someone and to an extent, unrequited love.” It’s like a blend of Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, just distilled into the world of folk. Produced in a minimalistic way that lets her vocals do all of the heavy lifting, crafting a wonderous atmospheric feeling that lingers in the air.

Enjoy a listen to the track below, but first, fine a quote about the song from Johnsone about it’s formation.

Having the world suddenly freeze gave me this strange surplus of time to really assess the emotions I was going through in life at the time, and I found song writing was a therapeutic way to do that
