Chicago’s No Star is the rock duo of Ryan Thomas and Robert Donile, who combine elements of 80s/90s rock and pop in a way that is both new and exciting but also comfortably familiar.
The duo has recently won us over with their newly shared single “Gardenview.” The track was written in the spring of 2021 and describes a last-ditch effort to save a relationship. Gardenview was recorded and produced at the studio we share with fellow Chicago band, Slow Pulp.
The anthemic slice of indie rock gold channels classic offerings from power-pop masters like Big Star, Fountains of Wayne and even The Smashing Pumpkins. It captures a larger-than-life grand rock feeling that makes you want to go to a bar with your best friends, find your next love, and get smashed while fumbling to do even one of those things. In other words, a classic summer night.
Enjoy a listen to the triumphant “Gardenview” below.
