Marie Mill is the Berlin-based folk duo of musicians and bakers Iris Marie and Oskar Emil, both from a fjord in the middle of Norway. The band has recently shared their single “Sunshine” a song that they wrote last summer from “a moment of sudden creativity on a lazy evening in Berlin.”
The sound does live up to its name, sounding like a fruitful summer day, with a mix of art-rock guitars and freak folk experimentation – not to mention some well-timed use of horns. But the backbone of the song is the lovely vocal work that acts as the glue that holds it all together.
