Why Dogs Why is a California-based project that cleverly describes itself as a “Californian corporation known primarily for the composition, production, and performance of music and lyrics pertaining to human interaction and life’s jigsaws.”

This includes their new single “TOC” a track that captures a shimmering dreamy feeling that feels very Californian and summer-like in nature. It has a bit of a 90s power pop feel, just with a more lounge, laid back sort of manner.

Find the track streaming below, along with a quote directly from the artist about it’s creation:

Recorded in February 2020, this song confronts the many feelings one is presented with upon logging on to various social media platforms first thing in the morning. The lyrics reference force-fed nostalgia (“bad memories from 2009”), general outrage (“compassion exchanged for passion for anything”), and the desire for simplicity (“don’t want a lot in life, just some kitchen scissors that actually work”). In terms of sound, the song follows a relaxed, mid-tempo drum beat backed by a drum machine with light guitars and has a bedroom-pop/indie-rock feel inspired by Grandaddy, the Radio Dept., and Beach Fossils.
