Cal Rifkin are a indie rock trio out of Washington, D.C., led by Erik Grimm. They have recently released their new single “Break My Heart,” which is also their debut music video release.
The track has a mix of a 90s emo rock sound with a more power pop style of delivery that takes the best of both worlds and sounds and combines them into something that is perfectly described as “happy sad.” A lot of Fountains of Wayne can be found in “Break My Heart”‘s DNA.
Or as the band describes it:
Break My Heart is a song not so subtly written about heartbreak. The subject is pleading to their partner to hurry up and get it over with since it is inevitably coming. The lyrics are contrasted with energetic guitar riffs and a slightly dancey drum beat. At the end of the day it’s a fun, energetic, fast paced power pop anthem.
