We’re getting close to the release of Nisa’s debut EP Guilt Trip, which will be released on March 26th. She’s been good to us, late last month sharing single “Ferris Wheel” and today she has returned with yet another single with the triumphant “Growing Pains.”
The track begins with a bit of an underwater-like effect with her vocals and some intimate keys complimenting the instrumentation. It’s a smooth opening which sets the scene nicely for the larger-than-life chorus that soars sky high with one of her most memorable hooks yet: “And now I’m taller than the fence you built to keep me in.”
I’ve said time and time again Nisa’s ability to create a song that feels comfortably familiar and rooted in tracks you love, yet transformed into a way that is very much of her own is one of her greatest strengths. 90s grunge, power pop, classic singer-songwriters, you can feel all of their presence in “Growing Pains” until that final stretch where she emerges as an artist of her one and clearly marks her arrival. Big things are on the way.
Enjoy a listen to “Growing Pains” below and stay tuned for the release of the EP.
