The Stolen Orchestra is the project of Melbourne, Australia-based musician Matty Sievers. Last year he released his EP Everything Is Happening which feature songs that will have you thinking this is a full band, not a solo project.
This is of course a compliment and one that will have you agreeing with me after one listen to it’s opening track “Funny How Sometimes You Just Find Things.”
It has the emotional build of Explosions In The Sky will a sad melancholic atmosphere of Sigur Ros, with use of strings that gives it an extra cinematic appeal and boost.
You can find the whole EP available to stream/buy here and enjoy a listen of the track below, along with a quote from Sievers about the song’s meaning.
My one and only song to contain drums in it, this track is a somber reflection on past loves, losses, moments and triumphs. It’s the most full of an arrangement I’ve ever done, blending my love of post-rock like Explosions in the Sky with my adoration of ambient neo-classical music. It brings a smile to my face when I hear it. Hope it does the same for you.
