i can japan is an indie rock project out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who has caught our attention with their recently released track “christina.”
The track won us over with its honest lyrical approach and vulnerable lead vocal performance, all built with a lo-fi charm that works quite well for what it’s going for. It’s no quite folk or emo rock but somewhere in-between there with a raw quality that hits all the right notes.
You can read about their approach writing the song below, along with a stream of the track.
i wrote and recorded this song in 3 hours as a part of a song writing exercise. it turned out so well that i wanted to rerelease it so here we are. i recorded this in an old church in Highland Park Chattanooga, TN called Mercy Junction Center for Justice and Peace at the St. Andrew’s Center. I was renting a practice space there so i just pulled out the instruments and my one mic at the time and set to work. the reverb is all natural from the room. glad at how it turned out.
