Spring Reverb is the homemade tape recording project of Portland, OR-based auteur, Devan Kochersperger. He took inspiration from the “sproingy-splashy sounds of the analog effect his moniker takes its name from” and channeled the “mirage of ’60s SoCal pop nostalgia bathed in a lofi wash of psychedelia.”
On his new single “City Made for Me” he makes good on that promise, writing a lo-fi pop gem that has many traces of the past in its DNA, brought to life in a sort of DIY homemade way that feels like the sort of blog submissions I got during the early days of the blog.
You can stream “City Made for Me” below, after a quote from Kochersperger about the making of the track:
I moved to Oregon almost four years ago from Appalachia to find the progressive paradise I was promised. Instead, I found myself on the verge of panic attacks writing songs as a coping method. The recording of “City Made for Me” served as a meditative escape from the madness outside my quickly shrinking studio apartment. I haven’t left my room in over a week now due to the hazardous air quality. The best I can do is look out the window and remember the landscape that used to sit where all I see now is a void of smoke.
