Thom Southern is a Belfast based singer, songwriter, and producer who has just shared his shimmering debut single, “Shivers.”
For a debut single, it’s a confident and assured effort. It channels the fuzzy goodness of shoegaze with a 90’s-esque singer-songwriter delivery that channels anthemic 90s influenced folk-rock.
The track was recorded in his Belfast based home studio and co-produced with 2x Grammy Award winner Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse)
Find “Shivers” streaming below, along with a quote from Southern about the song’s meaning and its creation.
“Shivers” is the concept of love being like a drug, a sensation of being outside one’s own body, floating and being able to observe oneself from a different perspective. I wanted to embody this meaning within a dense sounding track, to mainly focus on one swollen guitar sound which never stops throughout and accompany that with repetitive beatnotic drums
