Purple Cassette is the project of New York musician Ishan Kumar, who is now based in New Delhi, India.

The band has recently shared their debut single “Home Song,” a lovely folk offering that tips its cap to retro folk classics that came before it. While it may not reinvent the genre, it presents itself in such a wholesome manner, that you can’t help but be swept up by its current.

Here’s a bit of information about the track, as well as its music video, which was shot on an iPhone.

‘Home Song’ is aimed to be an easy listening, simple, mood uplifter.

With the world going through a challenging phase right now, the lyrics are a response to the feeling of unease and fear that has circulated amongst the masses. It describes the flimsy nature of humanity as a whole, and how the need of the hour is for people to work together in tackling this situation, written from the point of view of our homes. The calm nature of the vocals and the lullaby like keyboards, tries to assure the listener that things will be okay and this too shall pass.

The video for ‘Home Song’ has been shot on an iPhone. Edited by Ishan Kumar in vintage film style with a slight touch of stop motion, it ascends into an uplifting montage, showcasing different perspectives of ‘home’ throughout. As with the lyrics and theme of the song, it aims for the same comforting message.
