Last month Doves made their return official with the release of their exceptional new single “Carousels.”
Now today the band has officially announced their new album The Universal Want, which is their first album in 11 years. It will be released on September 11th via IMPERIAL.
Along with this welcome news, comes the sharing of yet another single, the chugging anthem that is “Prisoners.” The track was self-produced by the band along wtih Dan Dustin and recorded at their own Frank Bough Sound III studios in North West England.
The track has pummeling kinetic energy and those trademark Doves atmospheric flourishes that make you feel utterly and completely at home. With two homers in a row, it’s very clear this isn’t just a comeback, this is a mission statement.
Doves’ Andy Williams says this of the single:
It’s about continually chasing something and not being satisfied when you eventually get it. You’ve got ‘that thing’ and you find you’re not any happier. Be careful what you wish for.
You can watch the music video for “Prisoners’ below, where we’ve also shared the album art and tracklist.
