Pop music gets a bad rap these days. It’s true that most of the stuff that you hear blaring at you when you’re just trying to grab some food at the supermarket is straight-up nonsense. But good well-crafted pop, can be just as rewarding and emotionally affecting as the best of them.
This is the case with “Surrender,” the debut single from Vania, a New York City-born and bred singer/songwriter. She writes all of her material in her bedroom and records all of her vocals in her closet.
“Surrender” is an airy and sensual pop performance that doesn’t try to do too much but lets her vocal work shine alongside her free-flowing arrangements. There’s a bit of a Swedish pop styling to her sound which explains why it is both so smartly crafted and pleasant on the ears.
Find a bit of description about the track from Vania:
“I wrote this song on a night when my thoughts wouldn’t let me sleep. For me, it’s the best time to start writing because you’re too tired to second guess yourself and too tired to defend yourself. Let the words come, get them down, and then go back to sleep with a lighter heart.”
Most of all, I hope you’re healthy and staying positive during this time.
All the best,
Vania
