If there’s anyone who deserves some time off, it’s Courtney Barnett. The talented Aussie has been releasing a steady amount of output for the past half-decade or so and seems to never leave our orbit (we just saw her last summer) – not that we’re complaining).
Although she has no new music to support, she recently embarked on a special set of solo shows here in the U.S. This included a stop upstate in Woodstock, New York where she performed at the very intimate and historic Levon Helm Studios on January 25th.
The tour gave Barnett a chance to play some smaller rooms which gave the shows a much more personal feel than a lot of the larger shows that she’s normally able to play with her full band. She offered more stripped down and barebone versions of her catalog, including “Depreston,” “History Eraser,” “Elevator Operator” and “Sunday Roast.”
The night also provided her a chance to dive into some covers, including Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and The Lemonheads’ “Being Around.” She also did “Let It Go” from her collaborative album with Kurt Vile, and ended the show with a brand new song, hinting at what’s to come.
