Safer, the project of Mattie Safer (formerly of The Rapture), has returned with his new single “Countercultural Savior” following the previously released “Leave Me Alone,” which we shared earlier this year and was taken from his debut EP Sleepless Nights.
The atmospheric offering has an old school post-punk spirit to its production and sound, one that he wrote about “the rock ‘n’ roll mystique and the ways our heroes pimp that image to lead their fans toward self-destructive behavior and empty consumerism, all in the name of profit.”
It’s a groovy number that perfectly balances on the line of dance-rock and NYC punk, creating something that feels like a mix between LCD Soundsystem and The Strokes.
