The Dawdler, the musical project of Newcastle Upon Tyne’s John Edgar, already released one of the most overlooked records of 2019 with Keith In Ballachulish, of which we shared a handful of songs earlier this year.
He isn’t resting anytime soon, as he just announced that his sophomore album will be released in Easter 2020. He’s given us a first taste of the album with the LP’s lead single “Dark Clouds.” The track sees Edgar widening his sonic reach with the incorporation of synths and a bit of percussion for a lovely pairing with his reverb-heavy dream-laden folk sound.
As he puts it, the track lyrically is about “the ever-present doubt and self-hatred that lingers in one’s brain – chipping away at any self-belief and confidence in being able to achieve goals – whether it be climbing a mountain or just getting shopping done in the supermarket without breaking down.” He contrasts these elements with the song, which does have a bit of a triumphant and uplifting celebratory feeling around it.
Enjoy a listen to “Dark Clouds” below and find his debut album available to stream at his Bandcamp.
