Norwegian pop singer Sigrid, who released her debut LP Sucker Punch earlier this year (via Island Records), is no stranger to playing New York; she has previously headlined shows at Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, and Brooklyn Steel. A few weeks back, Sigrid and her band returned to the area for two sold out headlining performances at the East Village venue Webster Hall. We were fortunate enough to be in attendance for the second sold out night on September 20th.

With her backing band — Sondre Berg Abrahamsen on guitar, Peter Kolsung on keyboard, Kristina Skyberg on backing vocals, and Kasper Waag on drums—positioned on a riser towards the back of the stage, Sigrid was free to roam about in front and feed off the energy of the doting audience. Sing-alongs were frequent and often loud enough to nearly drown out any and all sounds coming from the stage. While many of the songs throughout the night were eminently danceable, songs such as “Level Up” and “Dynamite” brought about more an intimate-feeling atmosphere and restrained arrangements, with the latter featuring Sigrid, alone on stage, sitting in front of a keyboard lit by a single spotlight. The evening ended on a festive note with crowd favorites “Strangers” and “Don’t Feel Like Crying” performed back-to-back.
