Last year saw Johnny Marr return with his new solo album Call The Comet, and bring the tour to New York back in October for a performance at Irving Plaza. Marr is still touring in support of the album and kicked off his new North American leg of the tour on May 1st with a performance in New Jersey at The Wellmont Theater.
With no opener, this was simply an evening with Johnny Marr, allowing the guitarist plenty of time to weave between his solo material and many of The Smiths’ classics such as “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” “How Soon Is Now,” “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” and “This Charming Man,” which was the first time he’s ever played it in the States solo (as well as the second time ever). His setlist also included covers of Electric’s “Getting Away With It” and “Get the Message.”
