Last night Houndmouth returned to New York for a performance at Brooklyn Steel, following a much more intimate brief showing at Rough Trade NYC last summer in support of their third album Golden Age, released via Reprise Records.
The show featured an opening performance from Ben Kweller, who recently returned with new single “Heart Attack Kid,” that will appear on his upcoming new album, his first in seven years. It was my long overdue first time seeing Kweller perform, and getting to hear so many of his classics performed live was a real treat and completely worth the wait.
Houndmouth have settled in as a three-piece, getting a new dimension live with the addition of additional musicians, including a two-piece horn section that helped give an extra boost to material both new and old. The band ran through a wide collection of material from all three albums, with some older cuts such as “Sedona” and “My Cousin Greg” getting the biggest reception of the night.
