Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s hard to ignore the unfortunate drama behind Lindsey Buckingham’s forced departure from Fleetwood Mac.
He’s kept plenty busy since then, embarking on a solo tour of his own that is in support of his new solo compilation Solo Anthology — The Best of Lindsey Buckingham. On December 6th he returned to New York (after playing Town Hall on the 4th) for a performance upstate in Peekskill at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater. This was my first ever visit to the venue and what better way to ring in the first visit than Lindsey Buckingham?
After opening the show with his solo efforts “Don’t Look Down” and “Go Insane,” Buckingham broke the ice by thanking us for coming out to support him and celebrate the compilation that he was very proud to get released into the world.
While the setlist primarily was from his solo career, he of course gave us a few of the expected Fleetwood Mac favorites, such as “Tusk,” “Never Going Back Again” and “Go Your Own Way,” with the latter two being delivered with an extra pointed meaning that was not hard to pick up on.
Buckingham did address how weird of a year it has been but looked at it as a chance to start fresh and was happy that we were all able to join him on this new chapter. Fans were with him all the way through, erupting in applause after all the big hits and his extravagant guitar solos, even coming to the edge of the stage at times so fans could help him out and give his guitar an extra layer of oomph as he allowed them to reach out and tap it.
After a two-song encore of “Turn It On” and “Treason” (once again played with extra meaning) Buckingham thanked us again and said they’d be back again next year, this time with a new album to share with us. It seems there is no shot of a happy reunion with Fleetwood Mac coming anytime soon, but if get to see Buckingham do his thing in beautiful theater’s such as the Paramount, we can make it through.
