Blur guitarist Graham Coxon returned to New York on September 24 for a performance at Bowery Ballroom, the first of two performances in the city (with a performance at Elsewhere the following night). The tour is actually his first ever solo tour in North America, where he’s found a bit of recent solo success with his work on the soundtrack for the hit Netflix show The End of the F***ing World. On top of that, he also has eight solo albums and Blur material to choose from.
Coxon got comfortable and gave the fans at Bowery Ballroom a hearty two-hour set that ran through many of the soundtrack highlights. He even asked fans if the soundtrack was the reason that some of us were in attendance, but the crowds almost offended response made it perfectly clear that the room was packed with devoted fans who clearly knew him from Blur, as well as his own solo work. It was no surprise that the Blur songs he gave us (“Miss America” and “You’re So Great”) got the strongest reaction from the crowd and deservedly so. It was great to hear these songs but even more special to hear them in such a stripped down format from Coxon.
