English quartet The Magic Numbers returned this May with new album Outsiders, released via Park The Van Records.

I still remember discovering their self-titled debut in 2005 and being a fan of theirs ever since, yet I had never seen them perform live after all these years. Thankfully they came back to the U.S. for a bunch of tour dates in support of the album, including a pair of shows in both Brooklyn and Manhattan this July.

We caught them at Rough Trade NYC on July 17, with an opening slot from loud shoegaze-rockers Minihorse. The Magic Numbers were in great spirits, just happy to be in New York playing music to a crowd of equally adoring fans. They gave us a very balanced mix of new songs mixed with old fan favorites such as “Love Me Like You,” “Forever Lost,” and “Love’s A Game.” The band sounded sharp and as tight of a live act as they come, with lush harmonies that sounded flawless at Rough Trade. After all these years, it was well worth the wait.
