The self-proclaimed slop pop duo Diet Cig have been steadily touring since releasing their debut LP Swear I’m Good At This in April of 2017 (via Frenchkiss Records). For the band’s latest tour, singer/guitarist Alex Luciano and drummer Noah Bowman were joined by Anna Cory of tourmates The Spook School on bass and Karli Helm of Pllush on keyboard. This fuller-sounding incarnation of Diet Cig found themselves playing in front of a sold out crowd at Elsewhere on March 1st and, as is customary at Diet Cig gigs, the band ensured that the show would be a safe space where nobody should ever feel uncomfortable.
Alex Luciano’s trademark showmanship was on full display that night; when she wasn’t singing, she could be seen bouncing around the stage, spinning with her guitar raised high, kicking her leg as high as her head, or even trust falling from the stage into the crowd. The setlist mostly comprised of songs from Swear I’m Good At This as well as selections from their earlier EP and 7” single. To close out the show, the band broke out into the chorus of Semisonic’s Closing Time as friends and members of the opening acts jumped around joyously on stage.
