This year Interpol celebrated the 15th anniversary of their landmark debut album Turn On The Bright Lights. Sure one can argue that too many artists are banking on nostalgia and cashing in on their former successes (and without Carlos D). And while that’s certainly a part of the case here, it also gives fans a chance to get literally what they want: to hear one of the best albums of the 2000’s in its full glory from start to finish.
The U.S. portion of this special tour included stops in California as well as a big hometown New York show at Forest Hills Stadium. But it wouldn’t be an Interpol tour without a special last minute show at their old stomping grounds, Bowery Ballroom. The show came on September 22, the night before the Forest Hills show and offered fans an exclusive up close and personal intimate showing of this special show, the way it really was meant to be experienced.
Along with playing the album in full, they capped off the first part of the show with that era’s excellent b-side, “Specialist,” before finishing up with an epic encore of some of their other greatest hits, including “Slow Hands,” “Not Even Jail,” “Evil” and even a new song titled “Real Life” (which sounded good).
The band absolutely rocked the Bowery crowd and seemed totally comfortable and at home playing to a room of this size. It was easily one of the best shows I’ve seen all year and definitely a fond live music memory that I will forever treasure.
