The countdown to the 55th edition of the New York Film Festival is on. We already know that Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying will open the festival and Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck will be the centerpiece selection.
Today, the Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced that Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel will close the festival.
Wonder Wheel takes place at Coney Island in the 1950’s where a lifeguard (Justin Timberlake) tells a tale of a middle-aged carousel operator (James Belushi) and his wife (Kate Winslet) who are visited one day by his estranged daughter (Juno Temple) and complications arise.
With the addition of Wonder Wheel, NYFF55 is already looking mighty sharp and this is all before the full main slate is revealed.
The 55th New York Film Festival takes place from September 28 – October 15, 2017. Wonder Wheel will premiere at Alice Tully Hall on October 14th and will be released on December 1 via Amazon Studios, the first that they will independently distribute, according to Variety.
We’ll be covering NYFF55 as per usual, and there will certainly be more announcements in the next two months as the festival nears.
