Last year marked the return of beloved New York City rock group Luna, who played their first live show in ten years last summer at McCarren Park for Northside.
Thankfully that wasn’t just a one off show, as they returned for a few select dates, including a sold out performance at The Bell House in Brooklyn on May 27. The performance came in support of their recently released box set of their albums on vinyl.
The group sounded even better and tighter than they did at their McCarren show during their career-spanning 17-song set, which included some offerings from Britta Philips new album, such as “Ingrid Superstar,” and a cover of Evie Sands’ “One Fine Summer Morning.” They also did a great cover of The Cure’s “Fire In Cairo” during the encore that was simply phenomenal.
I don’t know if we can expect a new album soon, but if we keep getting frequent live performances from Luna (they’re playing Penthouse in full at Rough Trade NYC on October 1) then I think we can call that a win.
