Weezer’s new album Weezer (The White Album) is probably Weezer’s best album since 2002’s Maladroit, which may not be high praise, but it’s something. It’s an enjoyable, low frills summer album with some of Rivers Cuomo’s best hooks in sometime. Once you come to terms, like the band, that they will never come close to Blue Album or Pinkteron (nor are they trying to), you can appreciate their new work for what it is (though that doesn’t quite excuse a lot of their new output).
The songs translated well live, alongside expected favorites such as “My Name Is Jonas,” “El Scorcho,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “The Good Life.” Getting to see a band like Weezer in a small venue like Warsaw was opportune, and a much better option than their oddball outdoor amphitheater tour with Panic! At The Disco. They sounded larger than life at Warsaw, running through their 20 song set with gusto. Getting to sing song like “Undone (The Sweater Song)” and the encore night cap of “Buddy Holly” never has gotten old, and doing with with a small but faithful crowd on a breezy March night in Brookyln made it that much cooler.
