We’re lucky to live in a world where we can get music of such quality from artists like Nicholas Principe and his project Port St. Willow. In 2012 he delivered a modern gem with his debut album Holiday, and in late 2015 he did it again with the equally stunning Syncope.

I saw him play the album in full ahead of the release at Cameo Gallery (RIP) during the summer, and I returned to hear it again in full on November 17 at Le Poisson Rouge, this time after spending some time with it. Although he was opening for Bing & Ruth that night, the entire crowd on hand at LPR remained hushed and awestruck, as Principe carefully took us on a journey with him throughout the many places of Syncope.

Considering it’s one of the most beautiful records that you can find from 2015, it was an absolutely pleasure.
