After catching Eleanor Friedberger at Pianos, I made my uptown to catch a large-scale pop performance from Marina and the Diamonds at Terminal 5. This was my 3rd time seeing Marina in 2015, but with the other two performances coming at Boston Calling and Governors Ball, this really was my first “proper” full show.
The show was the first of a very sold out two-night jaunt at Terminal 5, in support of her seductively enjoyable new album Froot (released via Atlantic Records / Neon Gold Records). Her set was split up into a three part structure, with each of the acts dedicated to her three albums to date. It was a straightforward way to break up the setlist, but it worked quite well with the colorful stage lights and costume changes that came with it.
Marina and the Diamonds has found a way to make pop completely fresh and thrilling, while also doing enough stylistically to stand out from the rest of the pack. Simply put, her music is irresistible.
