It took about a minute for tickets to sell out for Beach House’s far too intimate show in late August (the 27th, to be exact) to sell out online. Demand was understandably high for the incredibly small show for the ever-growing Baltimore band, but even I wasn’t prepared for the amount of people waiting outside the venue with signs in hope of snagging an improbable extra to the show. The show came in celebration of the release of Depression Cherry, just one of the two great albums that they would go on to release in 2015 via Sub Pop.
For everyone lucky enough to attend the show, they were treated to one of the best concert experiences of 2015. Sure it was ungodly hot as hell in the tightly packed venue, but it was well worth it to see Beach House dazzle the tight quarters of Baby’s All Right. These days Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally are still joined by drummer Graham Hill, as well as Fleet Foxes’ Skyler Skjelset who helps out on keys and bass guitar. They shared highlights from Depression Cherry such as “Levitation,” “PPP,” and “Sparks,” but a good chunk of the set featured favorites picked from throughout their catalog, to the delight of all in attendence.
Beach House will be back very soon for a sold out three-night run at Webster Hall, but for those at Baby’s All Right that night, this was the only show they needed.
