This past Saturday Jukebox The Ghost made their live return to NYC (we caught them at a empty penthouse during CMJ last year) for a sold-out headlining sold-out show at Irving Plaza. It was palpable how excited the trio were to be playing such a venue in the greatest city. Their energy captivated everyone in attendance, and they made sure to hit home with fans old favorites, as well as new songs off their most recent self-titled album, Jukebox The Ghost (out via Yep Roc Records).
Songs like “Sounds of a Broken Heart,” “Somebody,” and “Static to the Heart,” had the crowd singing just as loud as Jukebox. For the finale, the boys brought out openers, Secret Someones and Little Daylight to closed out the night with a fun cover of The Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian,” complete with floating balloons.
What I appreciate about Jukebox The Ghost, is how interactive with the crowd they are. At one point they decided to let their touring partner, a stuffed dog-named CB Hash, do some crowd surfing. These lighthearted moments along with their unrehearsed, individualized banter, are indicative of how much they thrive on their relationship with their fans.
Ben Thornewill, Tommy Siegel and Jesse Kristin have great chemistry together and their music speaks to the heart and soul. Jukebox The Ghost has already had themselves quite a career and I believe they will only grow bigger and better. It is only a matter of time before these guys start hitting bigger stages so make sure you catch them while it can still be a somewhat intimate experience.
