L.A. retro-rockers Allah-Las released their appropriately titled sophomore record Worship the Sun earlier this year and it was a perfect album for warm weather listening, even if it did come out in September.
They stopped in to New York back in March to play Rough Trade NYC, testing out some of its tracks. Last month they returned for the first time since the album was released with a sold out performance at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
The band seamlessly meshed tracks from Worship the Sun along with the ever-so familiar tracks from their debut, and had the crowd moving and grooving with them all the way. They’ve built quite a nice fanbase for themselves, with many fans singing back parts of newever cuts such as “Had It All,” and of course, fan favorites “Busman’s Holiday,” and “Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind).”
Allah-Las are a band you just can’t help but root for. They’re making music that they clearly enjoy, with no frills or pretension involved. Their live show brings all that to life in a easy-going fashion that is always something I want to take part in.
