The Interview Still

Merry Christmas! Today Sony Pictures announced that The Interview will be shown in limited release on Christmas Day at select theaters.

Last week Sony disappointingly cancelled the release of The Interview with most of the major theaters unwilling to screen it, even though there were a select few theaters such as The Alamo Drafthouse, who were still willing to play the film. The nation shared its disappointment with Sony’s decision in the past week, which included President Obama

Well now Sony has decided to allow the select theaters that are willing to show the film on Christmas day to do just that. Theaters such as the Dallas/Fort Worth Alamo Drafthouse as well as The Plaza Theater in Atlanta have confirmed that they will distribute the film. According to The Wrap, the release will hit about 200 theaters nationwide. There will also be a VOD release on Christmas as well, but those details have yet to officially come out (but are expected shortly).

This sudden change of heart is good for cinema fans as well as all the patriots who were upset that we gave into the threats of terrorists. The Interview now has a passionate audience behind it, making me believe that seeing the comedy in a packed theater full of fans may be one of the most memorable theater experiences in a long time. Really makes you wonder if this wasn’t just an elaborate PR stunt by Sony, as many people are surely thinking it is.

Either way, the film will be seen, and that is exciting.
