Last week Australian 7-piece psych-rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard released their new album I’m In Your Mind Fuzz. It’s their 2nd album of 2014, and their 4th in the last two years. If that doesn’t say all you need to know about these guys, then I want to remind you that they pack 7-members on stage, which includes a pair of drummers. They dive into the same psych-rock world that John Dwyer’s Thee Oh Sees have made a living out of, which makes sense considering that I’m In Your Mind Fuzz was released via Dwyer’s very own label Castle Face Records.
Live they’re a force of energy. As I found during CMJ on Friday during BrooklynVegan’s day party at Baby’s All Right. An assembly line pumping out psychadelic gems that your mind will latch onto whether you realize it or not. You become transfixed watching a pair of drummers and a line of guitarists somehow stay in synch as they lay down brain melting levels of fuzz. Then when you least expect it they will break out a flute and find ways to fit it into their sound.
Although I’ve heard many good things about them all year, this was my first time catching them live, and I freaking loved it.
See these guys immediately. Trust me.
