It was another great edition of New York Film Festival, (find our coverage from last year here) full of films of all shapes and sizes, some of which will be major players come Oscar season, and some who may not be released until next year.
Some films touched on music in big ways (Whiplash, Eden), while others flashed it mores subtly, but still very effectively (Birdman). Then there was Seymour: An Introduction, the sublime documentary from Ethan Hawke that focused on the fascinating real life story of retired pianist Seymour Bernstein.
Like any good film festival, I saw many films that I probably would have missed if not for the festival, which means that it most certainly did it’s job. Like in previous years we reviewed all the films that we saw on our partner film site Monday Morning Matinee, and offered up a great deal of reviews of the films that you can find posted individually below.
The 52nd edition of the festival was unforgettable, we are already looking forward to the next. Find links to each individual review below, along with a photo gallery of some of the directors and stars that showed up to do post-screening q&a’s.
