Tennis are currently on tour in support of their fantastic new album, Ritual In Repeat which they released earlier this month via Fat Possum Records. This past Friday, they rolled through NYC to play to a packed Webster Hall.
Playing tracks from their entire catalog, the Denver based husband and wife duo of Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley seamlessly mixed old songs with new with ease. No matter what they played from their three album (+ 1 EP) discography, they sounded even tighter live than they do on their recordings. It was my first time seeing them live and they very quickly proved that they’re an indie-pop powerhouse not to be messed with. With crisp groovy baselines, fierce drumming, stellar keyboards, shimmering guitar work and silky smooth vocals, whats not to love?
At one point during the show Alaina had told the crowd “I remember when we played The Cake Shop and only had a 15 minute set, because thats how much music we had.” It’s wonderful to see how much they’ve grown over and the years whether it be musically or fan base wise, but I’m very excited to see whats next for them. Do yourself a favor and the next time Tennis is in town, go see them live… you won’t be disappointed.
