Remember when thee free iTunes single of the week meant something? Well, back in 2004 it did. As a young, impressionable music fan, I remember one of the free songs one week was a song called “Club Foot” by a British group called Kasabian. It was unlike any other music I was exposed to at the time, opening doors to many other British rock acts from past and present.
This past Saturday night, nearly a decade after discovering Kasabian, I finally got to see them live. They played to a very much sold out Terminal 5, a packed jammed with fans of all ages, who were all there to get a little bit crazy with Kasabian. Truthfully, I’m not as familiar with their recent output (such as their newly released album 48:13) as I was in the past, but to my delight they played a great deal of old favorites. “Shoot The Runner” was played 2nd, “Club Foot” was dropped in a massive way in the middle of the set, while “Empire” and “Fire” closed out the regular portion of the set in dramatic fashion, with fans jumping up and down at a staggering rate, with a vacant shoe flying back and forth within the crowd. It was that sort of show.
With as epic a finish of that, I didn’t know how they could top that in the encore. Well the answer was a cover of Fatboy Slim’s always classic “Praise You”, which tied nicely into the finishing touch of “L.S.F.” Kasabian delivered a high energy show that made the wait worth it.
