Yesterday hotly tipped L.A.-based recording artist Banks released her debut album Goddess via Harvest Records. To celebrate the occasion, and reward fans who purchased the album, she played a short but sweet intimate set at Rough Trade NYC. The performance was one of the venues “instore” performances that rewards fans with the performance as well as a meet and greet with the artist, who will sign their album.

Although it was a different vibe than the her large tent performance at Governors Ball this summer, the fans in attendance could hardly contain their adoration for Ms. Banks. For someone who just released her debut album, she has a very passionate and loyal fanbase who sang along to her memorable tracks such as “Beggin For Thread” and “Warm Water.” She got emotional during set-opener “Alibi,” wiping away tears as she told the us that releasing her album to the world was a big moment for her, feeling like she’d been working on it since she was born.

Banks’s has the talent and the voice to take over the stage. The only thing is that she seems to doubt herself on stage, often seeming a bit hesitant while performing, often giving us a view of her side while performing, hesitant to make eye contact for too long. With a little more self-assured confidence, Banks could emerge as one of the best new talents in the world of r&b fueled pop. She’s not quite there yet, but in a few years, I think she’ll be an even better performer than she is already.
