The Gaslight Anthem will return with a new album titled Get Hurt, that will be released on August 19 via Island Records.
The album (their fifth) was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer Mike Crossey. The album marks a new direction for the band, hitting influences such as folk, punk, and Americana. It’s an album described as heavier, yet still intimate. Sounds good to me.
The band have given us a taste of the album with first single “Rollin’ and Tumblin.” It sort of goes against the “new direction” that the band hinted at, as it’s a very by the numbers Gaslight Anthem track, with those familiar Brian Fallon vocals and the big steady New Jersey-minded rock ‘n’ roll licks. It hasn’t completely captured me the way that some of their others singles have, but it certainly just the job well enough.
