It’s about damn time. That’s what I said when I read the news that Canadian noise-rock duo Death From Above 1979 will finally release a new album. It’s titled The Physical World, and will be released on September 9 via Last Gang Records. It’s the long-awaited follow-up to their debut album You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine which came out a decade ago. Feeling old yet?
The duo broke the news during an interview with NME. Singer/drummer Sebastien Grainger shed some light on their thought process on the record and the possible reception it will receive from fans and the press.
No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death From Above. It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.
This record is a key for us. It will permit us to go play the shows we want to play and it gives us the freedom to do what we want.
It’s amazing to think that we are actually getting a new record from these guys (although its been known that it was on the way) It’s something I never thought would actually happen. A true “pinch me” sort of moment. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
