The Rentals is the band of Matt Sharp, who you may know best as Weezer’s former bassist. Back in the early 90’s he left Weezer to form his own band, The Rentals, who went on to release two albums. However, it’s been nearly 15 years since the band released their last album.
That changes on August 26 when they release their new album Lost in Alphaville via Polyvinyl. Sharp wrote and produced the album with a band that consisted of Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, Jessica Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, Lauren Chipman of The Section Quartet, and Ryen Slegr of Ozma.
The band have made up for lost time in a big way on first single “Thought Of Sound” which sounds like it just woke up from a big 90s nap, ready to share its nostalgic vibes. It hits all the right marks, giving off plenty of power-pop vibes that are too good to resist. Enjoy it below.
