James Blake’s set took place on the third and final day of Governors Ball, right about when the sun was on its way down. Sure, it would have been a bit more fitting for Blake to play in the dark of the night, but hearing him croon as the sun was setting was the next best thing.

He’s built quite a fanbase over the years, with loads of loud screaming (mostly female) fans pressed up against the gate eager to swoon over his songs, such as “Retrograde” and “Limit to Your Love.” His set also included a cover of Bill Withers’ “Hope She’ll Be Happier” (I’ve shared a youtube video of the cover below)

The more hushed set from Blake was unfortunately battling with Foster The People’s set, which started to bleed into Blake’s. Even so, the man managed to work his magic on the audience and keep them captivated. He was able to fight back with the pure power of his voice and those timely deep bass thrusts.

The man is at the top of his game, and is one of the more original artists around right now.
