Last week Edgar Wright left the directors seat of Ant-Man, leaving a huge vacancy. While it’s a massive disappointment to see Wright leave the project, it was only a matter of time until Marvel booked his replacement.

Today, three names have emerged on the short list to replace Wright. They are: Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re The Millers, Easy A, DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story), Adam McKay (Anchorman 2, The Other Guys, Step Brothers, Anchorman), and Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad, 30 Minutes Or Less, Zombieland).

According to The Wrap, it seems that Rawson Marshall Thurber has emerged as the likely favorite to replace Wright. Marvel has declined to comment on the accuracy of that, and Thurber’s representative didn’t respond to comment yet either.

To be honest, none of the three would be my picks to replace Wright. Thurber’s last picture was the rather bland We’re The Millers. Although, he previously directed Easy A and Dodgeball, I’m not sure if he’s the right choice. We all know McKay very well by now, and while he can create some hilarious films, I don’t see him applying that to a comic-book film. Fleischer is an interesting prospect considering what he did with Zombieland, but after two disappointing flicks in a row with Gangster Squad and 30 Minutes Or Less, I’m a bit skeptical.

We still got to see what Marvel has to say, but it seems like Thurber may be the favorite to lead the way from here on out. With a director coming in this late into the game, and production rapidly approaching, Disney really just needs someone in there who will follow their rules and give them the film they want.

Ant-Man
went from a project I was extremely excited about to something that I’m losing more and more faith in with each passing day. Sigh..
