The ascent of MØ has been a pleasure to watch. Every time I see her name it seems like she’s rising the ranks further, well on her way to stardom of her own. It’s no surprise, she does indie-pop in the right way. Her debut album No Mythologies To Follow is a highly enjoyable record, and she brought that experience to life extremely well.
Swedish singer Erik Hassle got the show started with a bit of a soulful draw applied to electronic music. He helped writer Shakira’s latest hit “Can’t Remember to Forget You”, so it’s safe to say he’s doing quite alright for himself.
It still amazes me to see MØ headlining a sold out show at Music Hall Of Williamsburg, after seeing her play at a Brooklyn loft party during CMJ 2012. That was one of my favorite performances of CMJ that year, so her success is no surprise. She’s handled her quick success well (I also saw her at SXSW this year), coming into her own on stage with a humble confidence that is hard to fine. She has full command and control up there, bringing all of No Mythologies To Follow’s jams to life with ease.
You’ll find her always moving on stage, never staying stoic, or keeping herself locked in the same spot for more than a few seconds. She had no problem interacting with the crowd, going upstairs to sing in upper portion of the venue, coming into the crowd to sing, and then ending the main part of her set by crowd-surfing. MØ’s what you call a natural. Someone fully aware of how to bring a show to life to each and every person in the crowd. Certain people are just born with it. She’s one of them. Highlights including the vibrant “Maiden”, “Pilgrim”, and the lovely “Never Wanna Know” which was when she made her ascent upstairs.
I’m glad I got to see her play at MHOW, as she is soon going to be too large to be contained at intimate club shows. She’s already booked a show at Webster Hall this fall, proving that time has already come.
Check out some more photos of her performance posted below.
