Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot already cast it’s four main stars, and now they’ve found their Doctor Doom. According to Variety, the villainous role will be played by Toby Kebbell, known for supporting roles in such films as The East, Dead Man’s Shoes, RocknRolla, and War Horse. He also has two big future roles locked in with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes this year and Warcraft in 2016. Clearly Kebbell is one to watch.
Kebbell certainly earned the role, beating out several other up-and-coming rising stars such as Jack Huston and Domhnall Gleeson. At 31 years old, Kebbell joins a young cast that already includes Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/Thing), and Kate Mara (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman). Lets put it this way, Kebbell can’t be any worse than Julian McMahon was in the 2005 film incarnation.
Based on Marvel’s “The Ultimate Fantastic Four” comic, Victor von Doom is a scientist involved in the accident that gives the Four their powers. It will be interesting to see how the film, directed by Josh Trank, (featuring a script originally penned by Jeremly Slater which was revised by Simon Kinberg) is handled.
There’s a lot of hesitation towards the direction that The Fantastic Four is headed in, but I myself am quite intrigued by it. These are all promising young actors with a lot to prove. We’ll see how it all turns out when The Fantastic Four comes out on June 19, 2015.
