Amatus has had quite a journey towards her debut EP, Broken Compass. Over the course of a few years she tragically lost her brother, cousin, and roommate to gun-violence in Chicago. It was after these heartbreaking events that she took the next step forward to produce music seriously as an artist. Music wasn’t new to her, since she was 14 years old she hung around music studios, sitting in on sessions with artists like The Roots, Erykah Badu and Common.
Her debut EP is here, and lead0trac “Messin” is a powerful listen with a strong core that’s not readily contained to one description. There’s a heavy synth influence but also a strong r&b connection. Her sound grabs your attention right away and doesn’t quite let go at any point. There’s a great deal of potential to be found here, lets see where she takes us.
